Data Dimensions partners with Vyatta to host its ddCloud division.

Janesville, WI (August 2011) – In keeping withData Dimensions commitment to bring the best possible solutions to its clients and streamline the security process, we have partnered with Vyatta, a leader in the networking industry. Vyatta brings innovation and affordability to the networking industry by delivering advanced routing and security in a software-based network OS that scales from the branch office to the service provider edge. Vyatta has decoupled networking software from proprietary hardware allowing users to leverage the price and performance advantages of standard x86-based hardware and components as well as virtual or cloud environments.
 
Data Dimensions’ Vice President of IT, Mike Heller stated, “Data Dimensions has fully leveraged virtualization across the enterprise to drive down operational costs in the data center and optimize our compute platform.  Implementing virtual hosting with VMWare hypervisor has allowed us to realize considerable cost savings on power, cooling and the administrative overhead of physical systems.”
 
Heller also stated, “Within our enterprise-level hosting environment, ddCloud, we have taken the use of virtualization to the next level.  We have completely replaced appliance based firewalls with the Vyatta virtual appliance.  By incorporating the firewall, routing and IPS with a virtual appliance dedicated to each client cloud we are able to deploy an independently secure hosted environment.  Unlike appliance based firewalls with performance tiers based on the hardware platform and virtual license, the Vyatta solution allows us to scale in a linear manner as our VMWare compute resources grow to support more virtualized environments.  The additional benefit is that clients who have a compliance requirement to manage and log events on their own firewall can do so.”
